Modofire's Origin Story
Modofire began with a simple realization shaped by a changing moment. As interest in outdoor living accelerated, the market responded with scale rather than substance. Fire features became widely available, yet most were mass produced, short lived, and disconnected from the architectural spaces they were meant to support. The category grew, but design integrity and durability often fell behind.
With a background rooted in architectural signage, lighting, and custom fabrication, I had spent decades working in environments where materials, tolerances, and longevity were essential rather than optional. That experience influenced how I viewed outdoor fire. Instead of furniture or accessories, fire features could be approached as architectural elements, designed with intention, proportion, and performance at their core.
Early experimentation focused on materials and processes I trusted. Marine grade aluminum, stainless steel, and finishes proven to perform in demanding environments. The response was immediate and telling. People were drawn to restraint, craftsmanship, and the confidence that these pieces were designed to endure rather than follow trends. What began as exploration quickly revealed a clear direction and became the foundation for Modofire.
Today, Modofire operates as a design led fabrication studio and U.S. manufacturer of custom architectural fire features. We combine design, engineering, fabrication, and finishing with a trusted network of American manufacturers supplying premium burners, ignition systems, components, and materials. This approach allows us to focus on the complex custom work that defines our brand while supporting select semi custom offerings through our partner network. Every piece is built to order and treated as a designed object, not a commodity.
We view outdoor spaces as extensions of architecture and human interaction rather than secondary amenities. Fire becomes an anchor within the environment, shaping how people gather, move, and pause within a space. Our work is intended to feel grounded and purposeful, integrated naturally into its surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
Durability and sustainability are addressed through thoughtful material choices, long service life, and disciplined production rather than surface claims. By building fewer pieces with greater care, we reduce waste and create work that remains relevant over time.
Modofire serves architects, designers, builders, and clients who value clarity, execution, and restraint. If the goal is to define a space rather than simply fill it, we are here to design and build alongside you.
